Dr. Wright has a powerful and inspiring story of resilience and triumph over a multitude of challenges (childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, mental health, and reproductive choices). Her story serves as a source of inspiration and encouragement for others facing similar struggles. Dr. Margaret B. Wright

Dr. Wright has a powerful and inspiring story of resilience and triumph over a multitude of challenges. Using drama, poetry, dance, and song to convey her experiences can be a compelling way to connect with others and raise awareness about the impact of such hardships. Through her journey, it seems she emphasizes the role of the arts and the strength derived from her faith in God's love as essential components in her healing process.

Willie

Willie Hinton

Willie Hinton, a native of New York began dancing at the age of 16 at Enloe Gifted & Talented Magnet High School in Raleigh, NC. Upon graduating Willie attended the University of the North Carolina School of the Arts (1990). He was also a scholarship student at the American Dance Festival Durham, NC (1989), The Governor’s School for Humanities and Visual & Performing Arts at Christopher Newport University presented Willie the “Presidential Citation”. (2009).  In 2013 the American Dance Festival awarded Willie the “Chuck Davis Scholarship”.  He was also the recipient of the “Trustee’s Scholarship” from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA. He was also a full scholarship recipient at the Alvin Ailey School.

Willie has toured nationally and internationally with The Rebecca Kelly Dance Company (NY), Jubilations Dance Company (NY), The Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco), and Dance Kaleidoscope (IN). He was also a guest dancer with The Chuck Davis African American Dance Ensemble (NC). 

 In addition to his performance career, Willie’s love of teaching allowed him to teach across the US, and abroad at several colleges and universities. He was the elementary choreographer for “Evening of Entertainment”, Durham North Carolina’s annual scholarship fundraising event for high school seniors where he worked with over 600 elementary, middle, and high school students. He also guest taught and choreographed on the North Carolina State University’s “Panoramic Dance Project”.  He was “Artist in Residence” at NCSU and North Carolina Central University. The Justice Theatre Project commissioned Willie to choreograph and perform “The Color Purple” where he worked with over 50 dancers and actors. He was also invited to set work on students from The Dance Institute of Washington, The National Dance Institute of New Mexico, The School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC), and Walltown Children’s Theatre. He was on staff at the Longleaf School of the Arts.

Willie’s passion to inspire awarded him the privilege to instruct students from the School of the Richmond Ballet where he taught Jazz/ Modern to all the levels within the school. He also was a mentor/teacher to the trainees and apprentices of Richmond Ballet's professional company, and teaching artist for their outreach program “Minds in Motion'' an affiliate of the National Dance Institute founded by world famous dancer Jacques d'Amboise.  Willie set works on the University of Richmond's dance company and choreographed their production of “RENT”.  He recently finished a two-year contract with NC Arts in Action, another National Dance Institute affiliate in Durham, NC, and Carolina Ballet’s summer intensive where he is a returning instructor.

Willie’s international teaching has taken him to Bolivia, South America where he oversaw the Jazz/Modern department at The Estudio de Capezio in La Paz. Bolivia. He was also a guest teacher at the University of Bolivia, and the American High School where he worked with their theatre department. Graceful Expressions School of Dance Education commissioned Willie to teach in the rural area of Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, the Naivasha School in West Nairobi, and The Dance Centre of Kenya

Among many of Willie’s accomplishments he was nominated and won the “Artsy” award for “Best Choreography’’ (Black Nativity) in the Richmond community given by Richmond’s VA Theater Critics Choice for his work with the African American Repertory Theatre. Presently Willie is on staff at City Ballet of Raleigh, Cary Ballet Conservatory, and Graceful Expressions Dance Education and the school of the Carolina Ballet.


Cari-Lenn Youngkin

Cari-Lenn Youngkin grew up in Raleigh, NC and started training in dance at a very early age. Upon graduation, she trained at UNCSA before joining the Certificate of Dance Program at the world-renown The Ailey School (formerly known as The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center) in New York City. At completion of the Certificate Program, Cari-Lenn joined the staff of The Ailey School under the Direction of Denise Jefferson. Her dance credits include Foot Prints Dance Company under the direction of Freddie Moore, Spirit Wings Dance Company, Earl Mosely Diversity of Dance, Crossroads Theater Company, Urban Bush Women (apprentice) as well as solo works that were created specifically for Cari-Lenn.

One special highlight was being invited to perform with the Broadway cast of the Lion King as a featured performer for a special performance. Returning to Raleigh in 2010, Cari continued her love for the arts through teaching and served on faculty at various ballet conservatories within the Raleigh, Cary and Apex communities. In the past several years, Cari-Lenn has been choreographing for the prestigious YAGP and ADC|IBC competitions where her solo works and artists have been award winning and top-placing finalists. Her students have gone on to dance with distinguished ballet companies such as The Stuttgart Ballet among others as well as have received trainee positions and scholarships to The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School, Richmond Ballet, The Institute for American Musical Theatre, Philadelphia Ballet, Houston Ballet along with collegiate schools of dance. Cari-Lenn is ecstatic to be back on faculty at The Raleigh School of Ballet.

Brian

Brian Youngkin

An accomplished soloist and choreographer, Brian Youngkin holds a BFA in Dance from the North Carolina School of the Arts. After guest appearances with companies such as the Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, Mr. Youngkin served as ballet master at the 1,000 student Pierrette Sadler Danceurs Studio in Raleigh, North Carolina, for fourteen years. He is proud of the many accomplishments of his students including appearances on Broadway, television, and film. Credits include: “So You Think You Can Dance”, “Dance Wars”, “The Greatest Showman”, and Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story.” Mr. Youngkin's students can be seen performing for Cirque du Soleil, Alvin Ailey, Disney, and Jose Limon, as well as teaching or studying at Julliard and The UNC School of the Arts. He currently serves as Resident Choreographer and Instructor at Infinity Ballet Conservatory, and is co-founder, with his wife, Cari-Lenn Youngkin, of Restoring The Lost Arts.
