Advanced Watercolor! Participants will have the opportunity to explore and continue to develop their skills for making expressive paintings. This will be an exciting workshop since we will be working with abstract color concepts to create exciting paintings. We will be using both traditional and nontraditional techniques while we explore light and the transparent effects of watercolor. Students will learn to see how these experimental techniques can be used to create the depth, dimension and excitement through bold color. Examples from other artists will help students understand how they employed various techniques to achieve expressive, lively qualities in their paintings. Watercolor is an exciting medium and we are inviting you to come and experiment!

About your instructor:

Watercolor is my chosen medium due to the unique ability of the medium to express color and the rapid movement of light. Every painting is an expression of the light being expressed in the objects and the immediate environment that surrounds me. The medium is fluid and without restrictions. Every painting is a representation of a moment in time that captures the movement of light in my world. My Still Life paintings are an expression of the sense of place I feel when I am working. The emotions are different in every piece. I am reminded of the people and places where I have traveled. My experiences are captured in every painting. My work represents a moment in time that captured by light color.

I started my Artistic career as a jewelry designer. I received an MS in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design and received my MFA in painting and drawing. My paintings and metalwork have been represented and exhibited with the Art Institute of Chicago catalogue, Smithsonian Institutions and other museums and art centers throughout the US and Circle Arts in Lyon, France.  Murals are another part of my portfolio. These projects are community-based working in rural and underserved parts of the U.S. and Mexico with art students, community members, children and local Artists.

Teaching is a source of inspiration for me. When I see students experience success in their work I am inspired and share their joy of creative expression. My paintings and metalwork have been represented and exhibited with the Art Institute of Chicago catalogue, Smithsonian Institutions at the Hirshorn Museum, and other museums and art centers throughout the US and with Circle Arts in Lyon, France.  Community based mural projects are another part of my portfolio.
