RISE: Jenny Morgan Self-Portraits

RISE: Jenny Morgan Self-Portraits

White Gallery October 7 - January 16, 2017

Morgan’s deeply personal work pushes the boundaries of figurative art by exploring innovative methods of modifying her nearly photographic, meticulous paintings. Her haunting self-portraits are perfectly realized only to be obliterated; their surfaces sanded and stripped away to reveal physical and spiritual torment. By disturbing the surface of the canvas, she achieves a striking intensity and psychological depth in her work, breaking through the ideals of traditional portraiture and the preciousness of realism. Her self-portraits examine the complexity of individual perception, providing the viewer a visual and conceptual window into the exposed personae of the self. Jenny currently lives and works out of New York, NY.
