Position Title: Buell Children’s Museum Learning Assistant

Close Date: October 20th, 2017

Pay Rate: $9.85/hour

Status:  Part Time/Hourly

Schedule: Weekdays & weekends (Tues-Sun) as scheduled

Start date: ASAP (pending background check of selected candidate)

Creative, energetic person wanted for part-time/hourly position in the Buell Children’s Museum. The Sangre de Cristo Arts Center seeks responsible exhibit guide to interact with children & adults, maintain exhibits, and assist leadership team as needed. Job Duties

  • Interact with guests of all ages visiting the museum.
  • Keep the exhibit project spaces cleaned and well stocked with supplies.
  • Operate the Buell Children’s Museum’s front desk Point of Sale system to admit guests, accept payment for Gift Shop purchases, process group tour payments, and sell Arts Center memberships as necessary.
  • Facilitate and interact with group tours visiting the Buell Children’s Museum exhibitions throughout the year.
  • Assist the Curator and Associate Curator of Learning in the implementing and maintaining of exhibits in the Buell Children’s Museum.
  • A flexible work schedule will be required at times. This may include early starts for tours, and some evenings.
  • Assist in the maintaining and distributing of outreach kits and other educational resources.
  • Adjust daily tasks in tandem with seasonal changes in workload. During the summer months, the Buell Children’s Museum becomes increasingly busy while the winter months can be slow. The majority of time is spent in guest interaction, maintaining the exhibit project areas, and assisting in various tasks relating to the various projects and events scheduled throughout the year.

Job Qualifications

Applicants for the position of Buell Children’s Museum Learning Assistant must be friendly and courteous, have good communication and organizational skills, and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Minimal computer work is required, but proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, as well as basic Point of Sale procedures is necessary. Applicants for this position must be willing and able to pass a background check. Experience working in schools or with multi-age youth programs is preferred.

 


Position Title: ​ House Manager

FUNCTION

To provide professional and courteous front-of-house operations at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center Theater and to ensure the safety and comfort of all patrons during Arts Center-produced shows.

PERFORMANCE DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Unlock doors and turn on lobby and foyer lights prior to performances. Complete pre-show safety checklist. Check public areas, including restrooms, lobbies, theater, foyer, and front of building and take care of any appearance and/or safety problems.
  2. Schedule and supervise ushers.  Explain procedures for emergency situations, seating, and holds.  Explain patron services and policies.
  3. Oversee stuffing and distribution of programs.
  4. Resolve seating problems, coordinating between patrons and box office.
  5. Seat latecomers and patrons returning to their seats during the performance, using a flashlight and observing hold policies.
  6. Remain in lobby or theater throughout the performance. Be posted in a prominent location at intermission and following performances to handle patron inquiries.
  7. Coordinate resumption of performance after intermission with the Production Stage Manager. Ensure that food is not brought into the theater.
  8. After the performance, ensure that the house is checked for litter and personal belongings. Return any found items to the box office.
  9. After performances, check that the audience has cleared the building, turn off lights in public areas, and lock front doors of theater.
  10. Ask unruly or noisy patrons to excuse themselves from the theater.
  11. Handle emergencies as described below.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

EMERGENCIES

  1. Work with security to handle all emergency situations affecting patrons and the building while on duty. Such situations may include emergency evacuation of the building in the event of fire, threat, power outage or other emergency in which patron safety is at risk; flood, fire or other physical problem which may or may not affect the audience or actors; fire alarms; patron illness or accident; and inclement weather. Notify emergency authorities and personnel as required. Coordinate emergency actions with the Production Stage Manager and ushers.
  2. Explain emergency procedures and exit patterns to ushers prior to each performance.
  3. Complete an accident report form for all incidents whether or not an injury was sustained.

SKILLS AND TRAINING

  1. Experience in dealing with a wide variety of people in a multitude of situations in a polite yet direct fashion.
  2. Professional experience as usher or house manager preferred.
