About Us

Professional Instruction at Affordable Rates

At the Sangre de Cristo School of Dance, we maintain a commitment to students and their families to provide:

  • Class curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, progressive, and sequential in each genre taught
  • Attention to the total development of each student regardless of their future aspirations as a dancer or latent abilities
  • Professional training to students with the desire to pursue a performing career
  • Respect for the uniqueness of the individual student so that the dance program is directed toward being a positive experience for age appropriate learning pursued in a safe environment free from embarrassment or disparagement, abusive language, intimidation, unhealthy competition, or other negative stressors
  • Use of current pedagogical knowledge, methods, and techniques known through dance medicine, scientific research, and literature to ensure safe practices

The School of Dance offers a variety of classes, including and in addition to:

  • Classes offered during spring, summer, and fall semesters that include ballet, pointe training, adult ballet, an early education program for ages 3-7, pre-ballet, character, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, yoga for dancers, conditioning, and specially developed classes for those wishing to pursue a career in dance
  • Camps offered in the summer (as of 2018)
  • Open Division classes designed for students who are new to dance and/or prefer something more recreational than the discipline of the School Division (see our information packets for a list of current Open Division classes)
  • Artistic Division classes for upper level students that are sometimes not offered at any other dance school in Southern Colorado
  • Master Classes taught from professional dance companies and guest artists.
  • The Sangre de Cristo Dancerz program, designed to offer training and performing opportunities to individuals with and without disabilities.

The Sangre de Cristo Ballet is a company housed within the Sangre de Cristo School of Dance comprised of students and guests who make the commitment to study all facets of dance and dance performance. Principal and corps de ballet roles are danced by School of Dance students who must learn to successfully manage their demanding class, rehearsal, and performance schedule through the use of time-management skills that cultivate exceptional levels of focus, discipline, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness.

The Sangre de Cristo Ballet is most known for it's performances. Most notably, our annual Nutcracker production is performed by the Sangre de Cristo Ballet and is open to almost all School of Dance students, and is always very popular with audiences. The Sangre de Cristo Ballet also hosts an annual spring production of either a classical or contemporary work of dance performance (sometimes a combination of both). Previous spring performances have included Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Carmen, and our 2019 production of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
