All classes are taught in a professional environment appropriate to the age and development of the student. Student placement may be periodically adjusted as proficiency increases. We emphasize safe, anatomically sound dance instruction for all students.

Fall classes begin on September 2, 2008 and continue through December 13, 2008.

Exploratory Classes -- Dance Exploration classes are positive, developmentally appropriate beginning dance education classes for young children. Fun and skill are combined in Dance Exploration I, for children ages 3 and 4 , as the child learns body awareness, locomotor skills and rhythm patterns, along with imaginative, creative activities. Dance Exploration II , for children ages 5 to 7 , will acquaint students with beginning ballet and movement techniques, a basic knowledge of dance music and rhythm, and an expanded movement vocabulary, while increasing coordination, control and skill levels.

Tap Classes -- Beginning in Tap I children ages 7 to 11 learn rhythm, terminology and step patterns which add up to tap dancing. Also, this is an ideal starting point for teens & adults. Tap II is where students begin to learn rhythm, terminology and step patterns which add up to tap dancing in complex dance combinations. Loose fitting clothing and tap shoes required.

Jazz Classes -- Be prepared to have a great time. Chicago based jazz as taught in major studios. Students learn correct basic technique of American jazz dance and explore individual expression through basic walks and dance combinations. Courses develop flexibility, strength and aerobic stamina. Course progression: Jazz I , Ages 8 to adult - No previous experience necessary; Jazz II , Ages 10 to adult with less than a year of jazz training; Intermediate Jazz Pre-requisite: Jazz II, 3 years of ballet technique or permission of director; Advanced Jazz -Pre-requisite: Jazz III, four years of ballet technique, and permission of director. Loose fitting clothing and jazz shoes required. Call the School of Dance for information about intermediate and advanced jazz.

BALLET CLASSES -- Class placement is determined by the director based on age and proficiency. All classes focus on developing body awareness, correct alignment, and posture. We provide professional training, with an emphasis on safe, anatomically sound dance instruction for all students at all levels.

Ballet I for ages 7 to 9 with no dance experience or less than 1 year ballet training; Ballet II for ages 8 to 10 with Ballet I, 1+ years worth of ballet training, or permission of director; Adult Ballet for teenagers and adults of all levels who want to improve coordination and flexibility in a relaxed environment and learn ballet technique along with stretching and strengthening exercises with the Theraband exercise band. Beginning Ballet for Boys is a special class for boys only designed to help increase the flexibility, balance, strength and coordination while learning the basics of ballet technique.

SANGRE DE CRISTO DANCERZ -- Company class. The Sangre de Cristo Dancerz is a performing dance company composed of individuals with and without disabilities. There are currently 17 members, ages 12 to 40, who take class, rehearse and perform under the direction of Robert J. Doyle. Late Fee: Accounts with a 30 day outstanding balance will be assessed a $10.00 late fee per session. Accounts with more than 60-day outstanding balance will be referred to collections.

Single Class Fee: $9.00, payable on the day of the class.

Make-up Policy: All students may make-up in any class the same level or lower. All classes must be made up within one session.

NO REFUNDS ON SCHOOL OF DANCE CLASSES.

Members Discount: Arts Center members receive a $3 discount off dance class tuition for each month.
